Hi everybody, I own a 96 bighorn plaisir that comes with 245/70r16 tyres, rims are 8 inch wide I think, I need to fit new tyres, I found a good offer on bigger ones. I was wondering if anybody knows if hankook dynapro 265/70r16 will fit properly on my rims and will not touch the arches while steering? Also will the tyres be wof legal being slightly wider? Thanks

3/4 of all bighorns are on that new size so should be ok. Remember your speedo will read about 2km lower which is not an issue. My wagon came on those tyres but aftermarket rims so not 100%on the offset and is fine for wof. Factory rims are 7 inch not 8 but thats ok. Only real thing is that the treads are not outside the guards.

Hi geeves thanks for your answer, hankook dynapros have a sort of pattern on the sidewalls, do you know if that counts as thread too? Or does only the top part count? Also do you know where about on the wheel arch do they check from to see if it sticks out of the mudguard? Back part of the rear mudguards sticks out more than the front part where the back door is for example. Thanks

the tread on top of the tyre has to be within the factory panels, so if you bolt the tyre on and put a ruler across the face of the tyre vertical it should be inside the gaurd, if you fit rubber flares to cover the tyres its meant to be certified as the track width has increased to much

Track is measured at the centre of the tyre so just fitting wider tyres on the same rim can cause tyres to be outside the guards without changing the track although most often other clearance issues mean you have to fit different offset rims making the track change thing true.
Most of these rules were made for cars and get tricky when applied to 4wds but rules are rules

as long as it doesnt look obsurd and like its going to attract atention you will be fine id say ai tyre increase of some thing like ur talking isnt huge and you will be fine
its only going to be 10mm each side so would hardly be noticable specially on a 4x4

Hope ok to jump in on this thread bout tyres. Hoping someone can tell me difference between 265/ 70/16 which are the wagon now, compared to 31 x 10.5 x 15? Nudge nudge, nudge, wink- geeves!

The rim
Seriously a 265/75/16 should be the same outside diameter as a 31/10.5/15 and the 70 series a 30 but tyre sizes vary so much brand to brand and even model to model within a brand that there is more than a little overlap.
15 inch mags can be a little tricky on ubs69 bighorns as the rear brakes are quite large but you should be able to get them to fit. Steel wheels shouldnt be an issue. I have 32/11.5/15s on 15x8 rims on my swb but I still have to do the flares. Wof day will still see 265/70/16s on the mags I bought it on to keep them happy.
