4JB1 intercooler

Post by magicdeo »

I am looking at inter cooling my 2.8 rodeo. I have heard the 3.1 jackaroo intercoolers fit easily if you rotate the turbo. Are the 3.0 ltr rodeo intercoolers the same?
Cheers

No the 3.0 litre is completely different and will not fit, 3.1 is the way to go but hard to find and very expensive when you do find them ...

Rodeos are front mount. You could make your own plumbing and mounts. If you can make your own plumbing and mounts you could use any intercooler from a similar size engine

3.0l tf rodeo is top mount but you need to change the inlet manifold and rotate the turbo and change the intake pipe to the turbo, 3.1 or 2.8 intercooled bighorn/trooper intercooler is the easiest, still need to rotate turbo and change intake to turbo though

digging up old post.. newb question, I understand to align intercooler inlet with turbo compressor outlet requires connecting a small 45 degree pipe after unbolting and turning compressor housing anti clockwise to the next bolt?

How do I get those bottom bolts off, the ones under the compressor side of the turbo.. they seem impossible to reach with a spanner with out taking the whole turbo off?

Can be done with a spanner and lots of patients is far easier with the turbo off but then you run into snapping turbo flange studs
