Late model 4jb1 into 90 jackaroo
Late model 4jb1 into 90 jackaroo
Jackaroo's got a bottom end knock so time for a replacement motor. What are the factors to consider when replacing my original mechanical pump motor with an electric controlled 4b1. So far I think of possible mods needed: exhaust and ecu put in. Any other considerations?
Re: Late model 4jb1 into 90 jackaroo
did the 4jb1 ever have electronic control? Your biggest issue would be the electronics. You will need the computer and loom from the donor vehicle. You could go the mechanical pump way but yours will be gear drive and the new motor belt drive. Not sure if you can change the timing gear over. Whats the donor vehicle?

Don't have a motor yet but all the ones Ive been looking at are from TF rodeos. All the wreckers adds on gumtree state gear driven for 4jb1 97-03.

Don’t think the 4JB1’s came out with electronic injection, you might be thinking of the later 3L 4JH1. Also I believe all the Australian engines were gear driven not belt driven. I would stick with a mechanical injection pump, no worries with wiring, and a lot more options for tuning.
Re: Late model 4jb1 into 90 jackaroo
that model range could be either motor mentioned above. 4jb1 will be easy as, 4jh1 is a great engine but not really a backyard conversion candidate
Re: Late model 4jb1 into 90 jackaroo
Very last of 4jb1t think 02 had electronic injector pumps only ever seen 3, rodeo engine has smaller exhaust manifold and turbo, will need to make a new exhaust dump pipe to fit your exhaust, change engine mounts and wiring loom
Re: Late model 4jb1 into 90 jackaroo
Ok, bought a rodeo 750 km away with about 200,000 on the clock. Just got to get it booked on a truck to bring home. Do you think I could swap the oil cooler over as to avoid having to mod my dump pipe. Are the 2 different 4jb1 oil filters the same size or would i be running under spec?
Re: Late model 4jb1 into 90 jackaroo
Oil coolers are straight bolt on swap, need to change bottom rad steel pipe and water hoses to oil cooler, also swap exhaust manifold and turbo as your exhaust wont match the rodeo turbo, bighorn turbo is bigger
Re: Late model 4jb1 into 90 jackaroo
Oil filter catches the rubbish in the system, the system should be clean so size shouldn't matter the filters are around the same size bit different part numbers
Re: Late model 4jb1 into 90 jackaroo
Motor is out of the jack. Couldn't clear the diff so I removed lower sump case and oil pickup then it popped right off. To remove the engine/box/transfer out of donor rodeo I cut the rad support out but haven't lifted it out yet. To put motor back in jack I would like to just slide the gear box back about 100mm. Also, I want to buy silicone coolant lines, mainly for top and bottom hose. Any one know where to buy individual hoses instead of the whole kit?
