4jh1 and 4jb1 difference for conversion kits.

Post by nb422 »

Hey guys. Im looking at putting a 3.8 ecotec engine into my mu as the engine is starting to have issues, and the v6 idea does have a nice sound to it..
Anyway i would like to keep it manual so am looking at a kit from australia. Only problem is the kit says it is for a 4jh1 but i have a 4jb1 manual and am aiming to use a 4jg2 mu manual box i have spare. What i need to know is are the engine mounts different between the two and will their supplied custom clutch and related parts work in my 4jg2 gearbox. Really dont want to spend upwards of 1.8k and find its wrong...
If this doesnt work out ill be going supercharged and auto instead haha but would love manual.

Cheers in advance

all the 4j series engines are based on the same block so mounts will be the same but not so lucky on the bell housing if that matters. 4jx1 4jj1 and 4jh1 have a different bellhousing pattern.

Damn i only wanted the kit really for the bellhousing adapter/clutch assembly... looks like auto it is.
I measured up to put a vn 5litre v8 in and for it to fit it would run from the firewall and the pulleys would just be where short of the back of the a/c radiator.. still considering this option and moving the radiator forward to in between a custom bar ill get made and in front of where the a/c rad used to sit... budgets about 7k shy of an ls1 unfortunately :(

If the 4jh1 is same block as 4jb1, csnt you just swap the mounting plate on the back?
