This is my Rodeo 2.8 4x4 Turning into a bit of a project now to get as much as i can out of a 4JB1-T

Modifications and Accessories:
Pretty stock suspension and body work.
Bullbar, with small light bar.
Upgraded all lighting to LED

Engine:
Upgraded to 2.5 stainless straight thru exhaust and dump pipe from turbo
Stock turbo running higher boost
Front mount intercooler with stainless pipework
Custom intake manifold
Fueled up injector pump, other adjustments and......fuel, lots of fuel
Water/Methanol Injection, AEM controller and pump, Custom 18L under tray water/meth tank
Clutch upgraded to heavy duty NPC (it killed the Excedy HD pretty quick)

UPDATED: running compound turbo setup now, 46psi boost.
Clutch upgraded to a NPC cushioned ceramic (killed the NPC as well)
Diff ratio change to 3.72 RA Rodeo LSD
changed rear springs
Fitted traction bars

Future upgrades:
Garrett VNT turbo
Intercooler water spray bar (may not need this with water/meth, need to do some testing)
fabricate air box for a high flow filter and snorkel
Diff ratio changes
Upgrade front brakes

Looks nce. Couple of things though. The breather pipe at the back of the rocker cover. If you dont run that into the intake before the turbo (possibly with a catch can) the engine will not be clean for long. Also that manifold might be great for ultimate power but does it cause turbo lag? Its a big volume to fill up before the turbo can really boost

Hi Geeves.
Not running without a draft pipe on the rocker cover breather, photo was taken while it was removed. Turbo lag is not an issue, the volume of the manifold is not that much greater than the stock one, any affect of lag is probably only in the order of milliseconds and not noticeable.

Go the 4jb1-T!

How much boost are you running now? Do you get crazy high EGT’s with this setup?

Running 24psi, but this bumps up to about 27 with water/meth on. Hi way driving at 110kph sits on around 280c pre-turbo EGT. Holding it flat till it runs out of revs in 5th will see it get to about 600c pre turbo. Towing a 2000kg trailer on the highway climbs to about 350c, on a good uphill part around 550c. If you held it flat with a trailer for long enough you could cook it but getting from zero to highway speeds won’t do it.

Running water methanol in a standard 50/50 mix with reduce egt’s. If you start playing with stronger mixes of methanol then that can increase them

Sounds like an interesting setup- I have done a lot of mods to my 4jb1T, running 16psi but my egts are higher than yours. The Intercooler water spray bar you talk about is most likely the difference- any chance you could load up some pictures of this?

Hi,
The water/methanol setup I am using is not an intercooler spray bar, but an injection of water and methanol mix post intercooler into the induction. It takes a significant amount of heat out of the compressed intake air. The methanol burns, and water vaporises during combustion cycle. Lower combustion temps and egt are a result, there is also a noticable pickup in turbo spool up to probably due to greater of exhaust gases/steam. The drop in EGT is not massive probably 50-100degrees at most depending on conditions. The boost pressure I’m running is probably a greater factor in EGT,s

I’ll get some updated pictures of the system

Hi I was just confused by this. I thought it was better to do away with breather pipe going into inlet pipe to avoid the smokey hot air. I'm just wondering how to have my catch can, at the moment I have my rocker cover breather pipe going into a catch can that drips into sump. I have 2 openings ontop of the catch can, the second opening used to be plumed into inlet pipe and overboost valve. Now it just hangs open spewing smoke into engine bay. I have quite abit of blow by on my 4jb1 but goes away upon reving.
