cv joints

Post by geeves »

From the department of random thoughts.
The outer cv is always the same except for shaft length. Its rare to break an inner cv although they do wear causing noise.
There are 2 inner cv sizes but this is held on by a circlip.
Does this make the inner cvs interchangable between your broken one and a spare with only the shaft length to worry about?
Im looking at a spare at a wreckers but havnt gone back to see if its the small inner cv or not. If it is no worries but if its not should I still grab it leaving the inner behind. Its an hours work to get it out give or take plus the wreckers back pocket that needs filling

yes but how interchangeable are they? ie ubs55 uses same outer joint as early ubs69 but the 69 has a smaller inner joint. Can I use a ubs55 outer with a ubs69 inner

I dont know what a ubs55 has but ive just changed the front suspension of my rodeo over to wide track ubs69 and thought id be able to use the larger cv joints on the longer shaft but the rodeo/mu joints have different sized splines to the wide track ubs69, typical japs

That meant dropping the diff and changing the complete inner cv. Also answers my question but not the answer I was hoping for
